Advantages and disadvantages of stainless steel precision casting.

Because the mechanical properties of stainless steel precision casting are higher than those of cast iron, but its casting performance is worse than that of cast iron, so it belongs to investment precision casting or precision casting. It has a relatively high melting point, the molten steel is easy to oxidize, the fluidity of molten steel is poor, and the shrinkage is large.

Stainless steel precision casting is not only suitable for the casting of various types and alloys.

  1. Due to the poor fluidity of molten steel, in order to prevent cold shut and insufficient pouring of cast steel parts, the wall thickness of cast steel parts cannot be less than 8mm;
    The structure of the pouring system should be as simple as possible, and the cross-sectional size is larger than that of cast iron;
    Adopt dry mold or hot mold; appropriately increase the pouring temperature, generally 1520°-1600°C. Because the pouring temperature is high, the superheat of molten steel is large, and the time to maintain the liquid state is long, and the fluidity can be improved. However, if the pouring temperature is too high, it will cause defects such as coarse grains, hot cracks, pores and sand sticking. Therefore, for small, thin-walled and complex-shaped castings, the pouring temperature is about the melting point temperature of steel + 150°C;
    The pouring temperature of large and thick-walled castings is about 100°C higher than its melting point.

  2. Since the shrinkage of stainless steel precision casting is much greater than that of cast iron, in order to prevent the occurrence of shrinkage cavity and shrinkage porosity defects in castings, risers, chill and subsidies are mostly used in the casting process to achieve sequential solidification.

In order to prevent stainless steel castings from having shrinkage cavity, shrinkage porosity, pores and crack defects, the wall thickness should be uniform, avoid sharp corners and right-angle structures, add sawdust to the molding sand in the mold, add coke to the core, and use hollow cores and oil sand cores, etc. to improve the yieldability and permeability of the sand mold or core.
